One of my goals for this year is to incorporate a wiki space for the students. It is one way to hopefully involve parents working with children.

After taking the course last year and seeing what technology could do to improve the students understanding of the standard-I’m excited to use the skills from last year and what I learn this year to tackle a new standard and finding new way to incorporate technology into the classroom.

I am not sure what my classroom will look like after I have accomplished my goals for this grant. I do know that I want to use an online book discussion with at least two other classrooms in the state. I do not know what that will look like as I have not a clue on how to set it up. I am in contact with another teacher from Mitchell that has done this before and she is going to walk me through this. I also want to prepare lessons for my Sympodium that I received at the end of April.

My goal is to have a comfort level accessing information on political candidates and political issues from Internet websites that students commonly use. In my classroom, I would like to see students who are using the Internet to be proactive well-informed citizens.

After taking an assessments in math course this summer, I’m looking forward to using more formative assessments. I’m also anxious to learn how to use my new Smartboard.

I’m still thinking about where I want to go with technology in my classroom, but, at this point, I can envision students reflecting on both the class novels we read as well as their independent reading choices. I want us to to be a “techno-savy” community of readers.

  • 9    Peggy Reiter // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:01 pm

This year I would like to use the Achievement Series for my math tests. I would also like to let my students be more independent in the use of technology. Perhaps have them use wikis. In the past I have had them make a web page, PowerPoint pages, clickable worksheets and webquests. However, I would like to use a more creative approach. Possibly use higher order thinking skills.

Everyone is invited to Hanson High School and Junior High to see that technology we have to offer. In my classroom I’ve spent over $300,000.00 in technology. We have a laser engraver, Computerized Embroidery, and silk screening machine. Feel feel to contact me for a visit. Email: bryce.holter@k12.sd.us. Thanks Bryce

I would like to see my classroom as one that is capable of reaching every student on their own level and providing them the means to increase their learning from the point that they are at. Implementing technology would be another motivational tool that would allow more students to express themselves in a media that is comfortable for them. Technology implementation would also make the curriculum more relevant to the students and allow me provide more options to the students.

I have noticed over the last couple of years that students are using web pages and social networking sites as resources for homeowork help. I am interesting in setting up a resource where students can exchange ideas, ask questions, etc after school hours. I have not decided if I will use a blog or wiki, but both seem to lend themselves to the idea. I hope students will look to my site as a primary source of help when completing course work.

My goal is to use the achievement series.

  • 15    mfrancis21 // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:07 pm

    My goals are:

    1. To have students complete web-based assignments through Wikispaces
    2. to have students create online portfolios and through Wikispaces
    3. To have students blog regularly about literature

  • 16    Cindy Froiland // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:08 pm

Last year I had my students do quite a few photo stories, wiki spaces, cyber guides, etc. using audacity. I wanted to get to podcasts but never found the time so I would love to do those as well as blogs and whatever else comes my way. By using the Achievement Series, all of the above and future technological skills should help me narrow the needs of my students.

  • 17    Jackie Jandl // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:09 pm

I want my class to have fun with this wiki program.

  • 18    Barbara Workman // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:12 pm

I am not sure what things will look like in my classroom after this class. There is so much out there that I don’t know about yet. I am looking forward to discovering what tools are available. Another goal is to become more confident with technology and incorporate it in my lessons. I also hope to be using the smartboards more.

  • 19    kathy liesingser // Aug 11, 2008 at 1:19 pm

I am hoping to integrate technology in my music class this year. I hope to be able to tweak a test created by another teacher last year, pre and post test and do some interactive smartboard lessons. If anyone has a good music smartboard site, please let me know.

My goal is to establish a wiki, first for one class, then expanding onto all the classes. I’ll eventually use my web site to direct everyone to the wiki.

Blogging would be a great way to answer the “what did we do in class yesterday?” question that some students have.

  • 21    Amber // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:40 pm

I’m looking forward to incorporating more technology into my classroom. I love the social bookmarking, I’m always wishing I had my school favorites at home, and now I can.

  • 22    Gretchen Scoblic // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:42 pm

Wow–what a great learning opportunity. I’ve worked with Achievement Series, but I want to do much more with it, wikis, and blogs. Keeping up with technology is tough but exciting; it’s great to keep learning.

  • 23    Donna H // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:42 pm

One of my own personal sayings is “I don’t know what I don’t know” and I want to tap into as much as I possibly can. Do I know what my classroom will look like? Not right now, but as I move forward through this course, I’m hopeful that I will be able to provide for my students an environment to surround them with technology appropriate specifically for them.

  • 24    Melissa Shanks // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:43 pm

I am not quite sure what technology pieces I will implement at this point. I teach second grade and want to explore some options that would be appropriatge for this age level. I am excited to see what will work with my students as I gain a better understanding of digital literacy.

  • 25    Roxane Olson // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:44 pm

I am looking forward to learning more about wikispaces. What a great opportunity for myself as well as my students!

  • 26    Carmen // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:45 pm

My goal for my classroom this year (through taking this class) is to really expose my students to many different types of technologies. We have exceptional starting equipment, so it would be great to use many of the different 21st Century tools to incorporate all different learning styles into the classroom. On top of that, allowing students to be creative in more ways than just using their basic computer skills is definitely a better way to promote the real world future.

  • 27    Tina // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:45 pm

My room will be 100% 21st Century!

Just kidding! Baby steps, Baby steps, Baby steps. After taking this class last year, the incoroporation of Achievement Series helped my students find ownership in what they learn. Pre and post testing using my newfound knowledge in Achievement Series helped me monitor what students were learning, and the pretest gave them a study guide for the post.

This year, my second time around, I want to do MORE! I was drowning in ideas last year, and now I can focus on trying more things like wikis, blogs, videos, etc. This is going to be an exciting year!

  • 28    Marlys Hauck-Fenner // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:47 pm

I’m looking forward to engaging my students by incorporating more technology into my classes, especially wikis. Also, I know very little about the achievement series assessment, and hope to make use of that as well.

  • 29    Kristen Tucker // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:48 pm

I am looking forward to learning new skills to engage my students and make their education more relevant to their everyday lives. Many of my students have given up on education and I hope that these 21st century skills will make my teaching more interesting to my students.

  • 30    Dawn Coggins // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:49 pm

At the end of year, I am envisioning my classroom to consist of more collaborative projects than I have done in previous years through the use of technology. I am also hoping students will witness increased skills through the use of assessments.

  • 31    Tracy Chase // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:50 pm

My goal for my classroom is to integrate new technology, different ideas, and test scores to improve myself and my students. I hope that I don’t get too frustrated or overwhelmed as the year progesses!

  • 32    Barb Hascall // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:50 pm

At the end of this year I hope to be able to incorporate more technology into my classroom. I would like to give them more real life applications and relate geometry to the students life.

  • 33    Nancy Weidenbach // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:51 pm

I am in a new position this year; 7th grade computers. The curriculum of this class requires me to teach keyboarding and the basics of Word, Excel, and Power Point. But I am excited to also bring in some of the new “technologies” that we will be learning through this class. I also have some free periods this year to help them integrate technology into their classrooms. This is where I can envision myself working along side teachers to use emetrics to look at their test scores and then use achievement series and technology lessons to help improve those scores.

My students will improve their Spanish and their understanding of hispanic cultures through the use of technology and 21st century skills.

  • 36    Sue M // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:53 pm

I’m excited to have more technology for my students! It’s great to see them excited for learning new things!

  • 37    Mary Gile // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:55 pm

I am very excited about taking book reports to the next level with my 6th graders. I would like to be able to have them deliver a book review in any format they would choose – movie, powerpoint, compose a song that incorporates the setting, plot and characters… How many differnt formats would they come up with.

  • 38    Shelly Trisko // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:57 pm

I forsee at the high school level a more communicative atmosphere between myself and my students. I teach only one class at the high school and am elsewhere in the district the remainder of the school day. Although I may not be physically present at school, utilizing a blog and wiki allows additional access for students’ at their covenience or even availability

  • 39    Patty Larsen // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:59 pm

As a high school counselor I don’t have a regular classroom in which to implement what I learn. I do work with students in career exploration activities and am excited about the use of wikispaces to link school, students and parents as collaborative partners in the effort to make the connection between career and academic preparation for that career.

  • 40    Angela Thill // Sep 6, 2008 at 12:59 pm

I’m a big fan of technology! However; I’d like to make sure that I’m using technology to benefit the students to the greatest extent and not just use it to use it, or just because I like it! I’d like to learn more about emetric and how to use assessment results to aid in my instruction. I’d also really like to try and use senteos at some point this year. All in all I want to get a little closer to having a 21st century skills classroom.

  • 41    cfroiland21 // Sep 16, 2008 at 10:05 pm

I see through the various comments that others, like myself, were anxious to get using more technology in their classes. I looked at e-metric just briefly but saw once again that the reading skills need to be improved once again; I think that will be a given since reading is something that requires quite a bit of skill building from comprehension to application. I have utilized a Wiki in my Senior Writing Class. We’re reading a short book and doing various writing activities with it. If you wish to see it, please access: sparksoleil.pbwiki.com
I’m looking forward to the workshops. I need the knowledge of Achievement Series to know what to do for the project that eveyone else seems to have a handle on!!!

  • 42    Sonia Coleman // Sep 21, 2008 at 4:11 pm

Im very excited to see all the different technology avenues I can learn. I would like to be able to be comfortable in most areas so that my students can use it more in my class this year.

  • 43    Dana Berg // Sep 22, 2008 at 3:04 pm

I am really looking forward to participating in the grant for the second year. Last year, as I first grade teacher, I was able to use achievement series to design assessments for my students. This year I feel that this will be a bit more of a challange with kindergarten students, but I am determined to find creative ways to use the data to create assessments at this grade level.

  • 44    Tracy Chase // Oct 14, 2008 at 5:24 pm

As I’m trying to work on E-Metric and Acheievment Series I find the stats interesting but to find specific questions and to focus on reading that’s difficult for me. Since I teach science I need to look at reading because I have testable data. I know that my students use reading skills to decode science terms and text so that is going to be my focus when using the Acheivement Series.

  • 45    Bryce Holter // Oct 21, 2008 at 4:54 pm

I really would like to have our internet in our school to get off lock down, as we have everything blocked. We can’t use http://www.flickr.com as it is blocked. We can’t blog as that is blocked also. How are other schools doing with sites that are blocked.
I once had network passwords, so I could fix my own problems in my classroom that is very high tech.
    Keep in touch
    Bryce

My goal this year is to assert some new technology in teaching English for the freshmen. Because this is my first year, I want this to also be a learning tool to assist the freshmen to succeed in using wikispaces and new technology. In incorporating these new ideas, I hope to be able to see results in the second semester.

  • 47    Pam Lundt // Jan 7, 2009 at 2:57 pm

I get so mad at myself because, on an academic level, I can see and somewhat understand the unbelievable opportunities technology offers (blogs, wikis, etc.); however, making everything work and having multiple opportunities to practice what I’ve learned is the tricky part. I agree with Bryce when he expresses frustration at having to deal with blocked sites. It seems that about the time I find something usable, accessing the information for use at school is impossible. I say this recognizing the responsibility the schools have to make sure safe sites are available. I think this will all come together at some point.
